PORSCHE 550 SPYDER OWNER’S MANUAL

FROM MY REVIEWS IN THE 356 REGISTRY:

Robert Boyle has out spectacular reproduction of the original 550 Spyder manual.   A few years ago, I sold a repro Spyder manual -- monochrome, totally wrong paper.  At least it gave Chuck Stoddard immense pleasure to show me his correct, multi color original manual.  The new manual is so good it, I can’t tell the difference.  Another friend, also with an original manual, claims there is a subtle difference in paper grade, but he failed to reappear with his copy for the comparison test.  The front cover is green with the correct white-silver helmet, and red-brown-orange scarf.  Open the cover and you find the bright orange-red stick-on  “Note!  Skid tendencies on racing tires can be improved by dividing the area of each tread projection by vertically slicing down through it.”  Turn the frontispiece and there is a translucent onionskin page with a spider-web motif, through which is visible an applied black and white photograph of an early 550.  Inside pages are off white with blue and brown color, as was the original.  “Most Important Adjustments” forms the last chapter.  The last page is a fold out wiring diagram.

Robert also includes 4 pages of hand written notes by the German racing mechanic, who originally setup the Spyder, from which this manual came.  Everything was so convincing that I had initial hopes that I had been sent the original not the repro for review.  You will forgive me if I did not immediately contact Bob about this error.  Available now @ $75.00 list – you won’t find a nicer, more accurate reproduction of an interesting piece of Porsche history.  And beware when you see an “original 550 Spyder Owner’s Manual” on ebay!
