Well researched history on not only the 911 derived 934 and 935 but also the 956/962 -- excellent developmental history, but also race results and extensive chassis histories.

Listed as a reprint but actually a rewrite. History is slightly shorter, photographs rearranged and added. The major change is the massively expanded documentation of ownership and race history by serial number of both actual factory cars and the space frame racers. Unmatched documentation.

FROM MY REVIEWS IN THE EXCELLENCE MAGAZINE:
An extremely timely book, tracing the development of 911 bodied competition cars from the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally 911, through the 3 liter 911RSR made just prior to the advent of the turbo. documentation of car type by serial number is given. with the purpose-built racing cars like Spyders and 904s headed for the financial stratosphere, the racing cars derived from the 911 coupe are reaching for the ionosphere. It’s very difficult and CURRENTLY uneconomical to clone a Spyder. However, one can potentially take a 911 shell and create an RSR -- desirable , but not half so desirable as the factory original racer. Hence, serial numbers are important for establishing providence. Unfortunately the list is not entirely complete. Porsche, on more than one occasion, has taken a car off the line and turned it into a race car when need for either its own purposes or t a favored customer. While not part of the official series, these are “true” factory racers. Recently, the owner of the ex-Jerry Kaiser (Toad Hall) Targa florio 911S-GT pointed out that his car was not part of the official series, but was specifically constructed in just this fashion.
The other hot 911 topic concerns lightweight Carreras. Unfortunately, starkey has not been able to completely resolve the dispute as to how many ’73 911 RS Carreras were built and how many were truly “light-weight.” If you have an interest in this topic, the English magazine Supercar Classics has been running a very interesting discussion via its Letters to the Editor column in which Starkey has participated.
Racing 911s represent the last of the borderline street drivable race cars. It’s almost amazing that this extremely rich field had to wait 15 years before someone sorted them out. I don;t think this book will be the the last work in 911 Carreras and it does have come organizational problems as well as a somewhat turgid style, but it is a very good. Start
