FROM MY REVIEWS IN THE 356 REGISTRY:

Porsche Moments is a compilation of period black & white and color photographs of the 50s & 60s by the best photographer of the period, Jesse Alexander.  Until recently Jesse had a showing during the week of the Detroit Auto Show and I thought I knew all of Jesse’s favorite photographs.  Yes, the famous photographs of Dan Gurney in the 804 Formula I car; Dan with Henry Manney in the RS61, grinning so infectiously, that you can’t help but join him; the pit stops at LeMans, are all there; but so are many I have never seen before.  The book is organized by race, many of the photographs not only fill the page but also lap over to the adjoining one – sometimes the facing page is blank, sometimes there is an expanded caption.   Especially impressive are the first pages of each race; done as black pages with a single large photograph and a smaller photo related to the large photo, with a small caption.    Subsequent pages are photographs sometimes page or more, sometimes small, always with cogent captions.  Given the period, there are a surprising number of color photographs (Silk, aka the fabulous Freda (now) Ph.D. was especially impressed by two color photographs of Dan Gurney, complete with massively stone chipped black helmet).  Measuring 290 by 340 mm with 96 pages – all devoted to our 356 period, Porsche Moments is a fantastic book, well worth its $74.95 list.  All the photographs in the book are available for purchase in various sizes, printed by Jesse himself.
