FROM MY REVIEWS IN THE 356 REGISTRY:
Susanne Miller is reissuing a much-missed book, Miller & Merritt Porsche Brochures & Sales Literature: A Source Book 1948-1965 as edition 3. Originally, as exemplified by its title, the idea was a book reprinting Porsche advertising would help document what might have come on a 356 Porsche of any given model/year. Even initially, M&M was an impressive piece of scholarship. The second edition added more brochures and a hard cover and a price increase. The third edition adds 17 more brochures and a price increase. Not all of the new ones are 356 or even 356 “period correct.” Susanne added 917 and even a ’73 911 Carrera RS brochures. All are reprinted in duo tone, even those in originally in color. The descriptions are well done and variants & measurements of the brochures are given. M&M had taken on a life of its own – in the 356 literature world, brochures are referenced as “M&M page ___.” M&M has been a significant book, with people paying a significant premium on the secondary market. Now available at $75.00 M&M is a significant addition to the Porsche 356 library.

FROM MY REVIEWS IN THE 356 REGISTRY:
Suzanne Miller is reissuing PORSCHE 1948-1965: A SOURCE BOOK -- now you know why it is widely known as MM. It is hardbound and slightly expanded. By eliminating the 901 introduction brochure and shrinking the page size of the 904 brochure, Suzanne was able to add about 20 additional pieces. It is also $50.00 in-stead of the original $20.00. Suzanne had an introductory special of $30.00; but the costs of 3 negative reproductions, necessary to avoid the book looking like her 911 series, brought the list to $50.00. Considering the prices, I hear people who didn't buy the first edition while current, are now willing to pay, I think you should get a copy before it happens again.

M Bob Lawrence’s REVIEWS IN THE 356 REGISTRY:
Richard Merritt and Susan Miller's PORSCHE: Brochures & Sales Literature 1948-1965. I must agree with Jerry regarding it's definitive work status and also use two other over used, abused terms that are applicable in this case, "BEAUTIFUL" and "Fantastic"... This book goes to the head of the class [and the head of the line in this
case) right up there with PORSCHE EXCELLENCE WAS EXPECTED. Both physically and qualitatively this Merritt & Miller masterpiece belongs on your bookshelf right next to Ludvigsen's Bible. Physically fractions of an inch t a l l e r and longer [8'/2" x 11") but naturally much thinner than PORSCHE EXCELLENCE WAS EXPECTED. this source book along with Sloniger's 4 Cam book [same size but slimmer) and the Automobile Quarterly Porsche issues (in case of course) make an interesting niche on your deeper book shelves or desktop. The cover is a beautiful silver metallic approximating the famous German racing silver. If you are a complete book nut like you know who, you might want to slip an acetate page protector on each cover for protective purposes. This is an "instant fix" until a more permanent solution comes to mind. Inside is an introduction or preface by the perennial, prolific, profound, Porschephile Jim Perrin. That guy just seems to be everywhere and I can't help wondering if one day I won't be reviewing a book by Jim. As the ad says everything is covered from the Gmünd coupe through the transitional 901 and final and very interesting brochure showing the 356C and the 911 together. Just as the 356 and Porsche have evolved over the years so have the sales brochures. The first brochures were actually rather amateurish but charming while later ones are masterpieces of brochure art. Early translations into English were equally charming, the Gmund coupe brochure mentioning "air conditioning" for the engine. Richard and Susann take each brochure and in turn give commentary on the particular model and then the particular brochure. All specifications as to actual size of the original brochure (most are reduced 80%) colors, format, page number, translation, and the collector's name of the brochure used. Would you believe that there were 23 different formats used in Porsche
brochures? One of the most interesting layouts to our way of thinking is one showing a 1952 model coupe in six views going counterclockwise. A very clever way to instantly show an all inclusive view of a particular car.
This book would have to be the perfect primer for starting out learning about the 356 and Porsche in general. Pictures say a thousand words plus brevity of brochures (compared to books) give a quick overview of Porsche development. The advantage for the novice porschephile in this book is that errors in the brochures and literature and quickly pointed out, by the meticulous Merritt & Miller. Originally I was quite excited to think that I, a non-collector of brochures , have one beautiful brochure on the B series loaded with Ken Purdy praise and quotes. But on page 269, Richard explains that in the interest of space conservation it was left out. I guess the same holds true for the Accessory catalog that I have which was printed in Germany in 1963 and seems much more extensive that the 1964 and earlier catalogs reproduced here. Mine could be an actual
dealer catalog in fact. As this book is subtitled Volume I we can only wonder if there are enough additional brochures and sales literature not included in this volume to merit [pun intended] a Volume 11. Or would Volume I1 cover the 911 series? Either way we are sure that the authors will make it a worthy companion piece to this M&M masterpiece.

FROM MY REVIEWS IN THE 356 REGISTRY:
Susann I Susann Miller is bringing out PORSCHE: POWER, PERFORMANCE & PERFECTION, which will be primarily valued beyond its history, as a primer on the arts --sculpture, painting, litho -- and Porsche. I have read the galley proofs and it's a very worthwhile book.
